Why I Vote for Unique Voices

I’ll be honest—I don’t usually vote in singing competitions, even though I watch them religiously. Why? Well, there are a few reasons. Sometimes, I just don’t feel the need to vote because the talent is so outstanding that millions of votes will pour in regardless. Other times, it’s a time zone issue. And let’s not forget the times I’ve jinxed my favorites! Seriously, it’s like my vote has some bizarre power that messes with the outcome.

But this week was different. I felt compelled to use my thirty votes during American Idol, and you guessed it—all of them went to Brooks Rosser. The competition is fierce, and I worried that his uniqueness might be overshadowed by more familiar sounds. Historically, shows like this often overlook singers with distinctive voices. Thankfully, this year seems to be different! Brooks not only snagged the Platinum Ticket voted on by families, but half of the expert judges in the Ohana Round claimed they’d never heard a voice like his before. How amazing is that?
