Discovering Unique Voices: Colette Elyse

Every other Friday, I write a post about singers with unique voices not commonly heard in mainstream music. My goal? I was thinking about which artist to cover next from my dwindling list when I remembered this indie folk artist who popped up in my TikTok feed a few days ago. Colette Elyse is so early in her career that she doesn’t even have her music on Spotify yet. And you know what? I love discovering baby artists! I haven't been this early to watch someone's career unfold since I went semi-viral covering Bella DeNapoli on YouTube a few years ago.

In Colette's recent TikTok video, she offered a fresh perspective on Dolly Parton's "Jolene." Imagine if she wrote for the man they're both pursuing instead of the homewrecker! Perfect timing too. RIP Dolly. Watch my analysis below, and you'll hear what I mean:

Supporting Emerging Artists

Colette's goal is to eventually produce her music and release it on streaming platforms beyond SoundCloud. So, go follow her on social media! Maybe we can even fundraise to get her a good microphone. I can vouch for the Rode Nt-1a microphone any day, even if you’re just using an iPad. She’s got something worth saying, especially after that Jolene revamp. If her Tiny Desk submission doesn’t say so, I don’t know what does!
