Every Friday, I write a post about singers with unique voices not commonly heard in mainstream music. My goal? To educate emerging artists and music lovers while inspiring them to embrace their own quirks. This week, I'm writing on Gean Garcia.

If I mention the name Gean Garcia, chances are you're either going to think of the TikToker with over 400K subscribers, or the at the time 19-year-old with the Passenger-esque almost trebly voice from eons ago when the battle rounds were in separate boxing rings. Speaking of which, his battle with Ryleigh Modig singing Ariana Grande was in my opinion one of the best of the season. And admittedly, the only one I remember. In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, here's a video of them performing here:
Gean's father is Spanish Christian musician Jon Carlo, whom he has toured with around America, Colombia and Mexico. Nowadays, Gean performs for birthdays, weddings and other celebrations around Texas where he lives. And he only has one single to his name, and a feature on one of his dad's songs. Personally I can't wait for a full album of either covers or originals or what have you. Because as I was watching American Idol earlier this week, another artist with a similar voice as Gean came into the foray: Brooks Rosser. (And he's a dementia nurse, which coming from someone whose grandmother had it means a lot.) And Carrie Underwood called him a unicorn. Hallelujah, singing competitions are starting to take more notice of unique voices the way The Voice tries to (not so much these days)!
So here's my take on Gean and his voice in the video below:
Pretty awesome, right?! So go and follow Gean on social media and all that jazz and also tune in to American Idol to follow Brooks' journey through the competition. And don't forget to share this post and subscribe to the YouTube channel to get more resources directly to your feed. And as usual, if you join the Firebird Flock for just $14/month, you get to suggest artists to me to cover in future episodes of The Unique Voices Club and I'll shout you out! Remember there's power in the unconventional!
Stay educated,
Alexia
