Singers with Unique Voices: Samantha Farrell (The Unique Voices Club #45)

Every other Friday, I write a post about singers with unique voices not commonly heard in mainstream music. My goal? To educate emerging artists, music lovers and musical theatre creators while inspiring them to embrace their own quirks. This week, I'm writing on Samantha Farrell.

I just need to put it out there that these days, artists and musical theatre creators don't need to live anywhere specific in order to get their music heard or their shows produced. So before you pack up and decide to move to Los Angeles or Nashville or whatever (unless you have contacts over there already), just know that. Anais Mitchell lives in Vermont and still took Hadestown to the London West End and eventually to Broadway. I know the stay-at-home mom turned Celtic heavy metal artist Leah McHenry who lives in Vancouver. And even I live four hours away from New York City. But you know who else is based in my neighborhood? This week's unique voice Samantha Farrell.

Unlike most of the entries thus far, I didn't discover Samantha on Spotify, from a recommendation or on something I was watching. I actually saw her live during an artist festival a few years ago while I was working backstage (the perks of working freelance in the performing arts space). And at the time my mind was totally blown that I could actually have a unique voice that actually comes from my city (Ryley Tate Wilson who I covered a while ago is based in Boston now, I know that, but he's originally from Alabama so he doesn't really count). So here we have it. East Coast and New England represented. Watch below my full breakdown, analysis and a brief glimpse into her music:

And here's your biweekly reminder to sign up for the Firebird Flock so that you get access to older Unique Voices Club posts on my website and also to the forum so you can suggest unique voices to each other and also if I use your artist, you get a shoutout in my video! And don't forget to like, subscribe and share the video so that the movement of the Unique Voices Club reaches the people who could benefit from it most!

Stay educated,

Alexia
